Mates/Breeding/Offspring
There aren’t really any fixed rules on how mates work. Just about anything goes, from courtship displays, to fighting over mates, to having two characters just be friends and grow closer over time. Mates can be temporary or for life, a character can have one mate or several/a harem, etc.
The quickest way to find a mate is to visit the Magnolia Garden. Otherwise, you can let your character roam around any of the RP boards to encounter others and try to form relationships with them naturally.
A character may only breed once a month.
Hybrids are permitted in breeding as long as the parents are from the same taxonomic family. (E.g. a Diplodocus and an Apatosaurus can breed because they are both in the Diplodocidae family, but a Diplodocus and a Brachiosaurus cannot, since the latter is in the Brachiosauridae family.) However, each individual offspring of two different genera has a 50% chance of being sterile. If two of these first-generation hybrids then breed, their offspring (second-generation hybrids) will each have a 60% chance of being sterile, and so on, the highest chance being 90%. When breeding hybrids together, please denote what generation(s) they are.
Breeding results may be "adopted out" to other players (i.e. a player who doesn't RP either of the parents may RP one or more of the newborn characters). Note that this is different from IC adoption (when a character takes in and raises a younger creature, regardless of who is playing these characters).
Characters less than a (real-life) month old are considered hatchlings; at one month, they become juveniles; at two months, adolescents; and at three months, adults that can breed. You may then age your characters at your own discretion.
