Herds/Packs
Members of a herd/pack look out for one another and work together to survive. They are led by an alpha, who makes final decisions on accepting new members or driving out current ones that contribute nothing to the group, are hostile, defiant, etc. The alpha can also choose whether his/her members must all belong to the same genus or if different kinds of creatures are welcome to join.
If you would like to create a herd/pack, there must be at least two other characters ready to form it with the prospective alpha. All three characters must be from the same genus and roleplayed at least somewhat regularly (meaning a player cannot create characters solely for the sake of forming a herd/pack and then end up never roleplaying said characters). It’s encouraged that at least one of these characters is played by someone else, but for now, there is no rule against using three of your own characters to start a herd/pack. Once you’re ready, e-mail me at [email protected] with the names and genera of the three (or more) initial members, and say which one is the alpha. Also, give a general description of your herd/pack (e.g. where it’s located, whether it migrates, what the alpha expects from its members--any info you want to give about it). A new board will then be created as your newly claimed territory, the header of which will be your description.
But, only three alphas per genus are allowed at any time, e.g. if you want to lead a pack with a Velociraptor character, but there are already three packs that each have a Velociraptor alpha, the character cannot create a new pack and instead must challenge one of the existing alphas. A challenger can automatically take over if an alpha does not respond to a challenge in ten days. New alphas are allowed to e-mail me to change the board’s description.
A character cannot challenge for a herd/pack whose alpha is a different genus from the character. A regular fight between such characters would be fine--the non-alpha simply will not be able to take over even if s/he wins.
A player may only create up to one herd and one pack. You may challenge for up to two more of each type of group (so at this point you may own a maximum of three herds and three packs) but the characters you challenge with must be from different genera. E.g. you cannot lead two Velociraptor packs, but you may create one (if there aren't already three of them, and if you haven't already created a different pack) and challenge for a Deinonychus pack instead.
You may be able to lead more than three herds/packs if your character is an alpha's mate/offspring/beta and has to take over the herd/pack if the alpha dies, etc. But this must be cleared with a Shaman player first, which can be done by posting the request to own another group on the Questions board.
